Laser cutting of technical foils

Laser cutting of technical foils to your contour

We laser-cut suitable technical foils to your specified contour. Internal cut-outs and processing of individual layers are possible; we assess the material, structure and required delivery format for your application.

What is foil laser cutting?

Laser cutting gives foils the required contour

In foil laser cutting, a laser beam follows the specified contour. Suitable technical foils can thus be cut into individual shapes without a shape-specific die. Internal openings and perforations are also possible. In multilayer structures, individual layers, including the liner, can be processed differently.

For design and production, the result matters: contour, layer separation and subsequent handling must work together. We therefore assess the base material, material structure, dimensions, heat input and required cut quality for each project. We do not laser-cut PVC-based foils. We assess other foils individually.

Laser cutting is particularly useful when a contour needs to be developed or changed without its own cutting die. Data preparation, set-up, processing and inspection remain part of production; cutting without a die does not in itself mean lower costs. Depending on the requirements, foil die cutting, foil plotting or foil cutting to size may also be considered.

How your foil cut is produced

Step 01

Clarify application and contour

Tell us the intended application result, base material, contour, dimensions, quantity and subsequent processing. A drawing or sample makes coordination easier.

Step 02

Assess laser suitability

We assess the material and layer structure, geometry, dimensions and cut-edge requirements. We do not laser-cut PVC; we assess other materials individually.

Step 03

Agree the execution

Together we define which layers should be separated and how the parts should be supplied. If needed, we agree a production trial or sample for your assessment.

Step 04

Cut and supply the parts

After agreement, we produce the approved execution. Delivery format and handling depend on material, contour and your processing operation.

Technical decision points for foil laser cutting

Criterion Assessment for your enquiry
Working area 2400 x 3000 mm usable; a margin may be necessary for an individual solution.
Tolerance We assess whether ± 0.1 mm is achievable for the material, contour and heat input.
Material thickness For laser-suitable materials, we assess thicknesses up to 5 mm case by case.
PVC We do not laser-cut PVC-based foils.
Tooling No shape-specific cutting die; data preparation, set-up and inspection remain relevant.

We assess these indicative values against your material and geometry.

Details for your foil enquiry

Tell us about the application and required result, the intended foil material including layer structure and liner, the contour and dimensions, and the required quantity. Please also describe which layers should be separated and how the parts will later be removed or applied.

A drawing, vector file or sample is helpful. Include any specific requirements for the cut edge, marking, inspection and delivery format. We use this information to assess feasibility and agree a production-ready execution with you.

Questions about foil laser cutting

Which foils are suitable for laser cutting?

Technical plastic foils, metal foils and foil laminates may be suitable. The material name alone does not establish laser suitability. The actual material, structure, contour, dimensions and required cut quality matter. PVC-based foils are excluded. Send us the material specification or a sample together with your drawing; we will assess whether the laser can produce the result you need.

Can the laser process individual layers of a foil laminate?

Yes, in a suitable multilayer structure, layers including the liner can be processed differently. The key question is which layer should be fully separated and which should remain or be cut differently. We therefore cannot promise layer cutting on the basis of the foil name alone. A cutting drawing and details of the layer structure help us assess the required result and, if needed, agree a sample.

When should a foil be processed by another method instead of laser cutting?

We assess another method if the base material is not suitable for laser cutting or the required cut quality cannot be achieved. We do not laser-cut PVC. Depending on the requirements, die cutting, plotting or cutting to size may be appropriate alternatives. Our recommendation depends on the material, geometry, delivery format and quantity; we do not infer a general cost or quality advantage for any one method.

Can samples be made before foil production?

We can agree a production trial or sample to support the assessment. Together with you, we assess the contour, layer separation and handling on the intended material. After your tests, you approve the prototype for further production. Tell us about the application, drawing, layer structure and required quantity; we agree the scope and effort of the sampling phase for the project.

Which delivery format is possible for laser-cut foil parts?

We agree the delivery format based on the material structure, contour and subsequent application. Depending on the project, we can supply sheets, parts on a liner or individual parts. A kiss-cut or through-cut initially describes which layers are separated; it does not automatically determine the delivery format. If you plan manual or automated removal, describe the required handling in your enquiry.
