LASER-CUT ADHESIVE TAPE
Laser cutting of adhesive tape
Krückemeyer GmbH laser-cuts suitable single- and double-sided adhesive tapes into contours tailored to the application. The laser does not require a shape-specific die; we assess the material, geometry and desired delivery format for your project.

LASER CUTTING ADHESIVE TAPE
Adhesive tape contours without a shape-specific die
When cutting adhesive tape, a laser beam follows the agreed contour through a suitable tape construction. It can produce outer shapes and internal cut-outs without a shape-specific die. This can be useful when geometries change or samples need refining. Data preparation, setup, processing and inspection still form part of the work.
The intended application result comes first: Which area should bond, where must material be removed, and how will the part be picked up in the subsequent process? Suitable single- and double-sided tapes, including transfer or foam tapes, may be considered as input material. We assess the specific backing, adhesive and layer construction for laser suitability. PVC is excluded.
Multi-layer constructions can be processed layer by layer, with the liner taken into account as needed. Contour, material and handling determine whether parts are best supplied on sheets or individually. For other laser-suitable material groups, see our existing services for laser cutting film and laser cutting foam.

WORKING TOGETHER ON TAPE LASER CUTTING
Step 01
Enquire with application and contour
Describe the component, bonding area, intended contour and quantity. A drawing or sample helps us understand the requirement.
Step 02
Assess material and feasibility
We assess the tape construction, laser suitability and requested geometry. PVC cannot be laser-cut; borderline cases need individual evaluation.
Step 03
Agree on format or sample
We agree on the contour, layer-specific processing and subsequent handling. If needed, a trial run allows assessment with the actual material.
Step 04
Produce and supply
After approval, we produce the agreed laser-cut shape. The delivery format depends on the geometry, material and your processing method.

ADHESIVE TAPE LASER-CUTTING OPTIONS
Contour and internal cuts
Outer shapes and cut-outs follow the agreed contour. Whether small internal contours are feasible depends on the specific material construction. Enquire about contours →
Layer-selective laser cutting
Individual layers in a multi-layer tape can be processed selectively. The intended separation of adhesive layer and liner is agreed for each project. Discuss the layer construction →
Perforation and marking
Suitable tape constructions can be perforated or marked to a specification. Position and intended effect are checked against the material. Enquire about perforation →04
POSSIBLE CONTOURS AND DELIVERY FORMATS
Adhesive dots on sheets
Round adhesive areas can be supplied on a backing in an agreed contour. The material and arrangement depend on the application. Enquire about adhesive dots →
Adhesive pads on sheets
Flat pads can be planned with suitable inner or outer contours. Liner handling is agreed to suit the subsequent process. Enquire about adhesive pads →05
INPUT MATERIAL FOR LASER-CUT PARTS
Single-sided adhesive tape
Suitable single-sided film and other backed tapes can be cut into contours. PVC-containing input material is excluded from laser cutting. View adhesive tapes →
Double-sided adhesive tape
Suitable film, nonwoven or transfer constructions can allow contours and layer-specific processing. The liner and adhesive also need assessment. View double-sided tapes →
Foam adhesive tape
Suitable foam tapes may also be used as input material. Thickness, contour and heat input determine the assessment in each case. View foam materials →06

DETAILS FOR YOUR LASER-CUT PARTS
Tell us how the adhesive tape part will be used, the desired application result and the existing or preferred input material. To assess feasibility, we need the contour including internal cut-outs, dimensions, material and layer construction, required quantity and delivery format. Please also describe how the part will be picked up and applied later.
A drawing or sample is helpful, particularly for multi-layer constructions or tight contours. If the material is already specified, include details of the backing, adhesive and liner. Together we can assess whether laser cutting suits this combination or whether another process is a better route to the intended result.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TAPE LASER CUTTING
Which adhesive tapes can be laser-cut?
Suitable single- and double-sided adhesive tapes can be laser-cut, potentially including film, nonwoven, transfer and foam constructions. A material category alone does not guarantee that a particular product is suitable. The backing, adhesive, liner, layer thickness and required contour must be assessed for the specific cut part. PVC is excluded from laser cutting.
What can laser cutting do with multi-layer adhesive tapes?
A multi-layer construction can be processed layer by layer, allowing the adhesive layer and liner to be treated differently, for example. Which layer is separated and which remains depends on the required handling and the material assessment. “Kiss-cut” describes the intended separation of layers; it does not mean the liner will always remain untouched in every construction.
What dimensions and tolerances apply to tape laser cutting?
The documented usable laser work area is 2400 x 3000 mm, and the documented tolerance value is ± 0.1 mm. A maximum thickness of 5 mm is stated for materials that are suitable for laser cutting in principle. These values are not a blanket commitment for every contour or material combination. Heat input, construction and handling can affect the result and are assessed individually.
When should laser cutting be considered instead of die cutting?
Laser cutting is an option to assess when a contour should be produced or adjusted without a shape-specific die. It avoids making such a die but does not make the process free of charge: data preparation, setup, processing and inspection are still required. Whether laser cutting or die cutting is more suitable depends on the material, geometry, quantity and planned repeat orders.
What information helps with an enquiry for laser-cut parts?
Describe the application, tape construction, contour with internal cut-outs, dimensions, quantity and desired delivery format. For a multi-layer material assessment, details of the backing, adhesive and liner are helpful. A drawing or sample makes coordination easier. Subsequent manual or automated application may also matter when planning gripping areas and the arrangement of the parts.
